How we workwith charitable trusts

Charitable trusts such as The Talbot Village Trust direct their giving through us to support some of our existing funds, such as our Neighbourhood Fund, because of our unrivalled local knowledge.

Because of our grant making expertise and local knowledge we can run funding programme or administer an entire charitable trust on behalf of trustees.

Independent charitable trusts are a great community resource but finding the right people, time and expertise to run them can be a challenge.

We can step in and manage a trust when there is difficulty in:

Recruiting and retaining trustees

Identifying beneficiaries that meet the trust’s purpose

Fulfilling statutory requirements, including reviewing applications, carrying out due diligence or reporting to the Charity Commission

Community foundations work with the Charity Commission under its Revitalising Trusts Programme, which supports charitable trusts that are struggling to distribute income and helps revive dormant or underused funds for community benefit.

The initiative has already released £32 million in the UK and has helped more than 1,800 charities put funds to work locally, with clear guidance and practical support throughout delivery.
